As soon as you start playing Batman Revolutions you come to realize this game means business. The traps and obstacles are unpredictable and very dangerous. Batman has been constantly shoot at by some alien green robots.
Bat-man didn't engage this escape mission totally unprepared. He's got a gun on him, but with the limited amount of ammunition, so therefore it is wise not to use it unless it is necessary. Sometimes it easier and smarter to avoid your enemy instead of wasting ammo.
You have three lives in total, and they don't recharge at the beginning of new level. The idea is to pass through the series of dangerous hallways until Bat-man reaches the final escape hatch.
There's gonna be a lot of failures on your way, but as the ending sentence reads "Failure is only a temporary change in direction to set you straight for your next success ." So, do what Batman would do in this situation - keep on playing.
